Kitchen Renovation: Selecting Your New Kitchen Cabinets

This article has been viewed 6 times.

Are you uninterested in opening up the same kitchen cabinets, every single day? Although many householders like their kitchens, including their kitchen cabinets, there are some who are looking for a change. If you are one of those homeowners, the ones who are looking out for a change, you might need to think about reworking your kitchen, especially your kitchen cabinets.

When it comes to kitchen refurbishment, there is a common misconception that is accidentally thought by many [**]. That misconception is exactly what kitchen revamping is. Many presume that to transform a kitchen you want to modify everything, from the light fixtures all the way down to the floor tiles. While a sizeable number of owners do decide to rework their full kitchen, there are others who only opt to transform little portions of it. Whether you are looking to transform your entire kitchen, all at once, or you if are only looking to transform a part of it, there is a good possibility that you may be in the marketplace for new kitchen cabinets; they are one of the most generally reworked parts of a kitchen and there are lots of carpenters who can do the job.

Though selecting a brand new set of kitchen cabinets could appear like a rather easy task, it is one that you should not make on an impulse. Since you'll be stuck with these new kitchen cabinets, at least until you move or decide to remodel again, you are going to need to make sure that you get your first choice. There are a considerable number of different ways you can do this. For the best results, you might need to go to your local home improvement store. When visiting one of your local home improvement stores, you must find a collection of kitchen cabinets on show; in reality you may find a fairly large number of them on show. Viewing each one of these kitchen cabinets is a good way to choose which cabinets would look great installed in your kitchen.

As well as visiting your local home improvement store, you may also want to examine kitchen cabinets on the internet. Though the shipping for kitchen cabinets is often considered pretty high, you may be able to find exactly what you were hunting for on the web. It is advised that you find either a web home improvement retailer or an individual that makes a speciality of making their own kitchen cabinets. In fact , if you're looking out for a unique set of kitchen cabinets, a set that you cannot find anywhere else, you may be able to order a custom set of kitchen cabinets. The cost could be more than what you intended on paying, but , as previously mentioned, it is important to get what you need, especially when remodeling your kitchen.

When looking for the perfect set of kitchen cabinets, for your next kitchen remodeling project, it's really important to keep a bunch of things in mind. One of those things is what you will be using your kitchen cabinets for. What you are using your kitchen cabinets for may have an effect on what you can and can't have. For example, if you'll be using your kitchen cabinets to store your food or your dishes, you'll need to be sure that you buy cupboards that may offer you the most space. While decorative kitchen cabinets are nice , they're often limited on the space for storage that they have.

In addition to the size of the space for storage, it is also important to inspect the dimensions of the kitchen cupboard itself. In the United States, most home improvement stores sell kitchen cabinets that aren't fully put together, but they are often precut to size. It may be feasible to change the measurements, but you may find it to be complicated and pricey to do so. Although you may be more concerned about the colour or design of a kitchen cupboard set, it is really important to recollect the basics. Even the most beautiful kitchen cupboard set will not do you any good if it cannot be installed in your kitchen.

By keeping the previously mentioned points in mind , you should be able to go out and find the kitchen cupboard set that you were looking for. Once you have found the kitchen cupboard set of your dreams, the reworking may start. Whether you opt to install your own kitchen cabinets or you let a professional do it for you, your cabinets may be installed in as little as a day or 2.

If you are thinking about reconstructing your kitchen you'll need an expert carpenter to make cupboards and potentially any other wooden addition. If you live in Toronto you should consult a Toronto carpenter. Get an
expert carpenter Toronto to do the all the woodwork in your kitchen.

5 Things About Breast Cancer You Should Take to Heart | Care2 ...

?

Living with Triple-Negative Breast Cancer
(#20 in a series)

As a triple-negative breast cancer survivor, there?s a lot I could tell you about the process. In fact, this is my 20th blog post on the topic. But the most important things I want you to take away from this series are really quite simple. I hope you take them to heart.

1. Touch yourself. Be familiar with your breasts. Get to know them like the back of your hand. Like the majority of breast cancer patients I?ve met or spoken to in this past year, I?m the one who discovered my breast lump.

2. Take breast lumps seriously. If you find a lump in your breast, don?t give in to the temptation to dismiss it. Breast cancer can happen to you. Even if you never smoked. Even if you eat right. Even if you think you?re making all the right choices. Even if there?s never been a case of cancer in your family. Even if ?

3. Call the doctor. Don?t waste precious time. Sure, you?re busy, but that?s a terrible reason to die. Ignorance is not bliss. If it turns out to be a false alarm, then whew! Now treat yourself to something special for your troubles. If it turns out to be cancer, early treatment may greatly increase your chances of long-term survival.

4. Cancer treatment is a bitch. So is premature death. Remember what?s at stake for you and your loved ones. You?re tougher than you think. Be an active patient. Learn all you can, question doctors, and make informed decisions based on fact, not fear.

5. Never stop living. No matter how bad you feel. No matter if you?re bald as a newborn baby and people look at you funny or if food has lost its allure or if you?ve lost weight and your clothes hang funny or if you?re missing a breast or two and your prosthesis is the wrong size or whatever else is out of whack. You have no idea how long you?ll be here ? just like every other human being on the planet, whether they realize it or not. As long as you?re alive ? live.

Colts activate QB Peyton Manning

(AP) ? Peyton Manning is back. Whether he is ready to play is an open question.

The Colts activated Manning from the physically unable to perform list Monday. A few hours later, the four-time MVP pulled on his white No. 18 jersey and a helmet, and jogged onto the practice field, renewing hopes that he might actually play in the season-opener at Houston on Sept. 11 four months after neck surgery.

"That's kind of been my goal all along, trying to get better and I know everybody's into predictions and everybody wants to have the breaking news," an upbeat Manning said. "But I just can't give you any more than what I'm giving you."

What everyone wants to know, of course, is whether Manning will be ready. Nobody, including Manning, will say that yet and he said again that he won't play in Thursday night's preseason finale at Cincinnati.

Clearly, though, Manning is getting closer. He acknowledged that he is healthy enough right now to take a snap or play a series to keep his consecutive-games streak intact but insists he won't.

"Like I said the other night, I have to be able to competitively play," he said. "I have too much respect for football. I've got to be able to compete and to help my team win, and that's what's fair to the team, fair to myself."

Manning has started 227 consecutive games, including the playoffs, the second-longest streak in NFL history for quarterbacks behind Brett Favre. Of all the numbers Manning has put up over the years, the streak is the one he has usually said means the most.

Manning had been on the PUP since the team's first training camp practice on Aug. 1 following the May procedure to repair a nerve in his neck. The Colts were facing a Saturday deadline to make the move or Manning would have missed Indy's first six games.

Team officials issued a statement that said Manning would practice on a "scripted" and controlled basis. Coach Jim Caldwell did not elaborate on the plan.

"Obviously, he's been throwing, but nevertheless it's just going to be in a limited amount," Caldwell said. "I don't think it needs a whole lot of explanation, I don't believe. Scripted means that we kind of know exactly what he's going to do, prescribed by his rehab specialist and our medical team."

Manning hadn't been seen much at team headquarters, perhaps working out in private. He was at his playful best on Monday, teasing reporters about their memories, poking fun at the circus-like environment surrounding his neck injury and suggesting that his close friend and center, Jeff Saturday, was tired of answering questions about him.

Team officials have said all along that Manning would practice only when doctors cleared him and when Manning felt comfortable, and he again declined to say specifically what was holding him back.

"I don't know what HIPAA stands for, but I believe in it and I practice it," Manning joked, referring to the federal law protecting medical privacy. "So, uh, I'll leave it at that."

The fact he has been activated is not only good news for Manning, his teammates and Colts' fans, but it also eased some concerns expressed by Jim Irsay. Indy's team owner recently wrote on Twitter that the Colts should be prepared to start the season without Manning and later posted comments that prompted speculation he was trying to convince Favre to come out of retirement.

Instead, the Colts signed another retired quarterback in 16-year veteran Kerry Collins, who stood alongside Manning in a nationally televised loss to Super Bowl champion Green Bay last week.

"(hash)18 to the practice field! Soon the leaves will fall/I looked at sideline sat.night n saw $30,000,000.00 standing there,my checkbook hurts!," Irsay wrote Monday. Manning signed a five-year, $90 million contract deal in the offseason to stay in Indy.

The next big question is how the Colts will divvy up the snaps.

Manning insists he'll spend the next two weeks continuing the rehab and trying to get in sync with his teammates.

But the Colts need Collins to work with the starters and still want Curtis Painter, who remains No. 2 on the depth chart, to play, too, in case Manning misses the Houston game.

"Starting today, I guess I'd be getting quite a few reps," Collins said. "What the breakdown will be, I don't know, because I'm sure they're going to try and get Peyton back into the swing of things."

The surgery was expected to keep Manning off the field for six to eight weeks.

Instead, the recovery has gone slower than expected, something Manning has blamed, in part, on the 4 1/2-month lockout that kept him away from team trainers.

With Manning ailing, the Colts have been refining backup plans. Two days after signing Collins, Painter delivered his best preseason performance by going 11 of 21 for 171 yards with two TD passes and nearly led the Colts to their first preseason win in more than two years.

But Manning has been the backbone of this team since he was taken No. 1 overall in 1998.

He's thrown for 54,828 yards, third all-time behind Favre and Dan Marino, and needs one more TD pass to join Favre (508) and Marino (420) as the only members of the NFL's 400-club. He's led the Colts to a record-tying nine consecutive playoff appearances, including last season when most of his top weapons went down with injuries.

"This was one of my goals all along, to get back during the week of this last preseason game," Manning said. "This would give you two weeks of on the field work, and it can give you a pretty good answer to some questions that coach Caldwell has and that I have."

Manning has been through all of this before.

In 2008, he missed the entire training camp after having two surgeries to remove an infected bursa sac in his left knee and didn't return to practice until the final preseason game. He wound up winning his third MVP award.

This time, Manning has been seen running and throwing passes and teammates have expressed confidence he will start in Week 1.

"I think he's right on schedule," said Saturday, one of Manning's closest friends. "I think it's whatever the trainers and the rehab say. That's where he is."

Barry Bonds' conviction upheld

Barry Bonds' obstruction of justice conviction was upheld Friday by a federal judge, who denied the former baseball star's motion for a new trial or acquittal on the charge.

A day after hearing oral arguments, U.S. District Judge Susan Illston in San Francisco issued a 20-page order refusing to overturn the only unanimous decision reached by the jury in her courtroom last April 13.

Jurors failed to reach a verdict on three counts charging the seven-time NL MVP with making false statements to a grand jury in 2003 when he denied receiving steroids and human growth hormone from trainer Greg Anderson, and when he said he allowed only doctors to inject him. Bonds was convicted of giving an evasive, rambling reply when asked whether he received drugs that required a syringe.

"Viewed in the light most favorable to the government, the record supports a finding, beyond a reasonable doubt, that the question was material to the grand jury's investigation of BALCO and Greg Anderson for unlawfully distributing performance enhancing drugs, and that defendant endeavored to obstruct the grand jury by not answering it when it was first asked," Illston wrote. "The conviction can be upheld if (the) defendant endeavored to obstruct justice, even if he did not succeed."

Bonds is likely to appeal Illston's decision to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Prosecutors have not yet said whether they plan to retry him on the three deadlocked counts. Josh Eaton, spokesman for U.S. Attorney Melinda Haag in San Francisco, declined comment on the decision.

"I haven't spoken to Barry yet and therefore won't have any reaction statement tonight," Bonds' lead lawyer, Allen Ruby, said in an email to The Associated Press.

Illston's ruling marked a victory for federal prosecutors, who have been involved in two cases this year against former baseball stars accused of lying about the use of performance-enhancing drugs. In a Washington, D.C., court room in July, U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton ordered a mistrial in the case against Roger Clemens, saying prosecutors introduced evidence he had banned as prejudicial.

Bonds was among the biggest stars convicted as a result of an investigation into the Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative (BALCO) steroids ring, a probe headed by federal agent Jeff Novitzky. Novitzky also is at the forefront of a different grand jury investigation into whether seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong used drugs to get an illicit boost in his victories.

Following a 12-day trial and on the fourth day of deliberations, the Bonds jury unanimously voted that the slugger gave the grand jury an evasive answer under oath. Rather than say "yes" or "no" to the question about receiving drugs that required a syringe, Bonds responded, in part, "I became a celebrity child with a famous father."

Bonds' lawyers argued that the answer wasn't relevant to the grand jury, and that in any case he answered a question that was essentially the same later during that session.

Illston did not agree.

"(The) defendant repeatedly provided nonresponsive answers to questions about whether Anderson had ever provided him with injectables, resulting in the prosecuting attorneys asking clarifying question after clarifying question, and even once resulting in one prosecutor interrupting another who was about to move on to a new topic in order to clarify defendant's mixed responses," she wrote in her decision, issued late Friday night. "An evasive answer about an issue material to the grand jury is not necessarily rendered immaterial by the later provision of a direct answer, even if that direct answer is true."

Illston said Bonds' answer to questions later in his testimony did not make up for his initial evasion, especially because there he was asked about being injected by Anderson.

Illston did not address Bonds' lawyers argument that his conviction was barred by a 1973 U.S. Supreme Court case, U.S. v. Bronston, that declared in a perjury case "a jury should not be permitted to engage in conjecture whether an unresponsive answer, true and complete on its face, was intended to mislead or divert."

Bonds has not been sentenced, with Illston preferring to first rule on the motions to throw out the verdict.

His conviction carries a possible sentence of up to 10 years in prison, yet federal guidelines call for 15-21 months. For similar offenses in the BALCO steroids ring case, Illston sentenced cyclist Tammy Thomas to six months of home confinement and track coach Trevor Graham to one year of home confinement.

Jurors said their final votes were 8-4 to acquit Bonds of lying about steroids and 9-3 to acquit him on lying about HGH use. The panel voted 11-1 to convict him of lying when he denied receiving an injection from someone other than his doctor.

Now 47, Bonds holds baseball's season (73) and career (762) records for home runs. He testified before a grand jury that Anderson told him the substances he was giving Bonds were flaxseed oil and arthritic balm, and that Bonds didn't know they were designer steroids.

"Did Greg ever give you anything that required a syringe to inject yourself with?" Bonds was asked.

"That's what keeps our friendship," Bonds said in the part of his answer the government charged was a crime. "You know, I am sorry, but that ? you know, that ? I was a celebrity child, not just in baseball by my own instincts. I became a celebrity child with a famous father. I just don't get into other people's business because of my father's situation, you see."

The jury instructions said that for Bonds to be convicted, jurors had to find Bonds' answer "obstructed, influenced or impeded, or endeavored to obstruct, influence, or impede" the grand jury "by knowingly giving material testimony that was intentionally evasive, false or misleading."

OUR EXPERIENCE

We miss Paris for the little boutique shops specialising in all things irresistibles ? les petites boulangeries,?patisseries et chocolateries. So, it is to our great delight that little specialty sweet boutiques seem to be increasingly popping up around Melbourne, adding just that little more irresistible sweetness to a life already dedicated to sweet irresistibles.

?

The?concept of ?pop-up? stores have long existed in the fashion world. Before the advent of the likes of Net-A-Porter and Shopbop etc, and before department stores in Australia found it necessary to compete with such international offerings, ?pop-up? stores were MoMo & Coco?s first source for seasonal designer imports and designer sales.?If there has been a positive consequence of the post-Global Financial Crisis (some would say, still ongoing), it has to be the?emergence of ?pop-up? food-oriented shoestring operations that?exemplify a?spirit of small business entrepreneurialism?against a melancholic backdrop of rising housing and rental prices. While the US may be the epicentre of the financial crisis and this ?pop-up? food phenomena, Melbourne too has increasingly had its share of ?pop-up? restaurants, cafes, bars, and even a recent??pop-up??truffle boutique?and food truck. Being the insatiable sweet-tooths that we are,?MoMo & Coco?have been particularly attracted to ?pop-up? vendors of sweet irresistibles ? we remember a joyful pre-Christmas sweet shopping at a Baker D Chirico ?pop-up,??braved the hoards at?a laneway cafe for a ?pop-up? macaron maker, and recently divulged to our readers, our long-held cupcake ?pop-up??secret.?With desserts the highlights of?a celebratory dinner at Maze,?we returned to indulge at?a dessert and cocktails ?pop-up? bar (a perfect?amalgamation of our favourite food groups). The rather business-savvy pre-official shop opening spruiking?in the form of a CBD ?pop-up? by?Burch & Purchese?magnetised us to later?visit the official South Yarra store. For all that, we have long heard of a certain ?pop-up? dessert master. Constructing sweet irresistibles for an elite group of no more than 15-20 patrons in each of 2 or 3 sessions, every Thursday evening, this dessert master has stationed his headquarters in the tiny kitchen of Cafe Rosamond ? a little hide-hole with dated furnishings, entered via?an inconspicuous entrance opposite a soldier troop of garbage bins, around the corner of gritty Smith Street.?

?

On a bone-shaking wintry night, MoMo &?Coco finally visted for?Cafe Rosamond?s??Best Of? Dessert Evening, distinguished from the weekly event as a quarterly affair where the ?best? desserts of the previous three months feature on our dream meal ? a 4-course dessert-only degustation ($49). One may, of course, choose to do 1, 2 or 3 courses only,?at $20, $30 and $40 respectively, and/or the dessert tube alone at $9, but?because the servings are small and light, we highly recommend the complete menu. :) ?Being a member of the dining ilk that prefer planning ahead and making reservations, Cafe Rosamond?s most exasperating no-bookings policy meant that MoMo & Coco held vigil at the entrance of Cafe Rosamond at 6.15pm, for a 7.00pm sitting.?

?

The first irresistible sampled was the ?Bombe Alaska Tube.? It?was a test tube with brandy jelly at the bottom, followed by layers of?liquid sponge, flamed meringue purree and topped with icy vanilla icecream. Tilting back our head at the same obtuse angle as draining a sake or vodka shot,?one long suck of this dessert tube transformed us from an unsure, tentative Dr Jekyll to a Mr Hyde with smacking lips and an evil, delighted grin.?

As our first course,?the ?Chocolate, Beetroot, Raspberry, Cocao? was the miniature stalgamite and precious ore formation as?found in the caves of?Snow White?s Seven Dwarves.?Its foundation consisted of jewel-like droplets of tart raspberry and silky chocolate, creamy parfait-like cubes of raspberry and beetroot, and crackly rocks of raspberry.?Countering the sweetness of the chocolate and raspberry, soft airy savoury splinters of beetroot wafer were wedged in to create three-dimensional stalgamites. With a colour scheme as red as Snow White?s pout, we chipped away at this formation of preciousness as carefully and as lovingly as the Seven Dwarves.

If the dessert test tube made us?grin evilly?like Dr Jekyll/Mr Hyde, and the first course conferred a soft dreamy smile of a fairytale princess, the second course of a ?Popcorn Soup? made us sigh in the same way as Goldilocks with her steamy bowl of porridge. The Popcorn Soup was as pretty to look at as porridge, but one swirl and one spoonful revealed a soulful dose of liquidised salted caramel and caramelised popcorn, balanced with a slightly medicinal tasting biscuit crumble of popcorn?that left a dry, powdery?palate.?

The final course of ?Semolina, Golden Syrup, Marmalade and Macadamia??was straight out of the mystical world of Alice in Wonderland. With a segmented body, one could almost visualise the hookah-smoking caterpillar advising Alice as to which mushroom to eat. Each segment of its body was rotatingly composed of beige macadamia nuts,?golden syrup flavoured sorbet, and?tangy?marmalade drops. A scattering of mini pop corn bits and semolina grain?interspersed with little green foliage also?conjured up an image of a forest floor. A medal-winning golden finish that left us?as grinning?Cheshire Cats.?

Contrary to many bloggers perhaps, MoMo & Coco insist on?ambience and service?to complete?a dining-out experience. Excepting a large group of student know-it-alls, the company mainly consisted of quiet duos and trios of young after-work early birds and eager-eyed locals. The atmosphere was rather cosy and moderately subdued, punctuated with gushes and sighs, albeit no Meg-Ryan-in-When-Harry-Met-Sally moments. The only problematic issue we?note is that, unless you have a photographic memory, the lack of even a small printed menu card ensures forgetfulness of irresistibles that lists ingredients rather than confer a name. Special mention to the Cafe Rosamond staff?and the dessert maestro ??notwithstanding the extremely high-pressured environment of constructing and serving almost every patron a 4-course degustation of intricately crafted creations within an hour or so, and in such a Thumbelina-sized space, the service staff were exemplary. Friendly, focused, never flustered,?they were an army crack team who looked after the couples,?the singles and the groups in equal measure.

?

OUR VERDICT

Integrating whimsical, well-balanced?spectrums of textures and flavours, the visually stunning and delight-in-mouth deconstructed creations conjured by the dessert maestro at Cafe Rosamond poses a sophisticated challenge to, and indeed, could?be said to surpass the infuriatingly careless dabbling at the finale of a meal by an overwhelming number of restaurants and other dining venues. Redefining what a meal should be (dessert-only, oh?yes please), Dessert Evenings at Cafe Rosamond deserve a permanency in the fleeting ?pop-up? dining landscape ? they are?to MoMo & Coco?what the luminous white pebbles were to Hansel and Gretel. If fairy tales could be re-written, follow the weekly moonlit trail to Cafe Rosamond, and to a happy ending, where desserts and sweet irresistibles live forever and happily ever after.?

PFT: Don't assume Young is Eagles' backup QB

Bud Light And Marcus Allen Launch NFL Fan CampGetty Images

As part of a lengthy and detailed item from Mike Silver of Yahoo! Sports assessing various lingering issues regarding the power of Commissioner Roger Goodell, Silver reports that the issue of whether players will be punished for personal conduct policy violations occurring during the lockout was resolved via a compromise.

Per Silver, roughly two dozen players who got in trouble during the lockout won?t be punished.? Eight players regarded by Commissioner Roger Goodell as repeat offenders will be punished.

If those eight players (including Titans receiver Kenny Britt and Bucs cornerback Aqib Talib, both of whom met with Goodell this week) are indeed fined and/or suspended, I?ve got some free legal advice for them:? Sue everyone.

It?s the height of hypocrisy for the league to inflict significant damage on the shield via a lockout, and then to discipline players who potentially tarnish the shield during the lockout.? And it?s simply wrong to expect players to behave themselves while away from work when they?re constantly away from work because they?re being prevented from working.

The union should be joined to any lawsuit as well.? Regardless of the legal theories asserted, the notion that the union would throw these guys under the bus for things that happened when the union wasn?t even a union is unfair, and courts that are confronted with such inherent unfairness will try to find a remedy.

So why was the union willing to give up those eight players?? Our guess is that Goodell persuaded NFLPA executive director De Smith not to worry about the small handful of bad apples, given that their behavior threatens the golden goose.? With the players now treated as true partners, having at least 47 cents of every dollar generated flow into their pockets, anything that harms the league?s image potentially impacts revenue, which in turn reduces the players? collective take.? And so, to the extent that Goodell ultimately is protecting the brand, Smith has decided that he won?t let the interests of the few undermine the interests of the many.

That?s fine.? As long as guys aren?t getting screwed.? Britt, Talib, and the other six repeat offenders are getting screwed.? And that does more damage to the brand than anything those guys have done individually.

Risk Factors of Domestic Violence on Chilren who Witness Them

The following risk factors determine the severity of the above-mentioned impact of witnessing domestic violence on children.

Mother?s psychological and mental state? The mother's mental health appears to trump all other variables after controlling for violence exposure, in contributing to child adjustment?? It is understandable how victims of domestic violence will have post traumatic stress disorder and depression (Lynch & Graham-Bermann, 2004; Margolin Gordis, & Oliver, 2004; Zlotnick, Johnson, & Kohn, 2006, cited by Graham-Bermann & Perkins, 2010, p. 430). Some mothers turn to drugs and alcohol further impairing their ability to parent (Saunders, 1994, p. 54). However, mothers who maintain their parenting ability, ?serve to buffer the negative effects of children?s exposure to domestic violence, ?especially among younger children (Grych, Raynor, & Fosco, 2004; Levendosky, Huth-Bocks, Shapiro, & Semel, 2003 cited by Graham-Bermann & Perkins, 2010, p. 430).

Severity, duration and proximity of exposure. The length of exposure to domestic violence is also an important risk factor. ?Children who showed high resiliency (eventually) succumb to a lengthy exposure to traumatic, violent episodes.? This exposes children to ?ongoing, chronic, traumatic stressors (Graham-Bermann & Perkins, 2010, p. 436).

The severity of the Post Traumatic Stress Disorder suffered by children who are exposed to domestic violence, depends largely on the ?severity, duration and proximity? of their exposure to the traumatic or violent episodes (Groves, 1998, cited by Hornor, 2005, p. 210). There are also studies proving that children who are exposed to, ?multiple violent father figures,? have significantly more total behavioral symptoms than those exposed to domestic violence perpetrated by their father or a father figure (Israel & Stover, 2009, p. 1762).

Children who witness only intermittent domestic violence by just one particular father or father figure, ?benefit from periods of less stress and of relatively higher quality family functioning? (Martinez-Torteya, Bogat, von Eye & Levendosky, 2009, p. 573). Other risk factors.

Other risk factors of domestic violence on children include, race, economic status, and incidents of being abused themselves. It has been found that white and African American children are more likely to have higher levels of depression and anxiety than those from other minority groups. Meanwhile, children from poor families show lower reliance than children from the middle and upper class families (Gerard & Buehler, 2004; Bradley & Corwyn, 2002, cited by Martinez ). Children who are physically abused as well, show more severe behavioral problems (Edleson, 1997, p. 12).

Coping

Children exposed to domestic violence use either the ?emotion-focused? or ?problem-focused? coping strategies to manage their pain. Emotion-focused coping strategies try to control their emotions by distracting themselves by listening to music, ignoring the problem, and refusing to talk about the problem. Those who use the problem-focused approach would directly attack the source of the stress or the problem itself. They may try to insert themselves between their feuding parents, assume the role of caregiver to their mothers. Younger children have less coping strategies than the adolescents who can walk away, calling the police, or even using drugs to alleviate their pain.

Young children resort to turning their television volume up to drown the noise, inventing imaginary friends, or covering their ears to protect themselves from the realities of the violent altercations they witness or hear between their parents (Baker & Cuningham, 2009, p. 200). More children use the problem-focused strategy (Peled, 1993; Folkman and Lazarus, 1980 as cited by Edleson, 1997, p. 14; Holt, Buckley & Whelan, 2008, p. 803).Implications and Recommendations

Studies after studies report the egregious effect of long-term exposure to domestic violence necessitating early intervention. However, in most cases, intervention only takes place when the abuse is reported by victims. Health care providers, such as doctors and nurses, including school nurses, who get involved in cases of severe physical trauma must be able to determine if domestic violence is involved in women and children they see. They must be well educated in domestic violence intervention, and be knowledgeable in referring the victims to the proper helping agencies in the community. If the children have been determined to be victims of abuse as well, they must report and refer them to the appropriate agencies including the Child Protective Services.

Victim?s advocates such as the YWCA?s victim?s prevention and intervention program, as well as the shelters for women and children victims of domestic violence must be aware of the impact of domestic violence on children who witness and live with it. also refer them victims and children to shelters.

Care must be applied in determining whether mothers are also instrumental in harming children directly or indirectly. Usually, the mother is the only person these children are comfortable being and living with, especially mothers who are still able to effectively care for their children amidst their violent intimate relationships. Helping agencies must do all they can to teach proper parenting skills to the mothers. Health care providers, including mental health care providers and social workers also need to provide an environment where children exposed to domestic violence can be heard.

There are studies suggesting that, ?disclosure has a positive influence in the lives of trauma-exposed children.? Children who are able to talk about their experience had, ?lower internalizing adjustment problems and had a greater understanding of the unacceptability of family violence following intervention,? even reducing, ?anxiety, depression and traumatic stress? (Barner & Camey, 2011, p. 1072).

Conclusion

Witnessing domestic violence is a traumatic and stressful event that has severe negative impact on the behavioral, cognitive, emotional, physical and social well being of children who witness it. Risk factors that affect the impact include the ability of mothers to parent, severity and duration of the exposure, children?s age, gender, ethnic background and socio-economic status. Not only are the negative impacts immediate, but life-long as well. Domestic violence exposure shape children?s belief system, and influence their abilities to establish and maintain relationships. They are also most likely use violence in the way they handle conflict.

Health care providers must do all they can to determine if domestic violence is involved in the women and children they treat so that early intervention can be applied, may it be through the court system, protection services such as the women and children? shelters, and/or other health providers. Mothers and children should be kept together as long as there are no indications that the mother is abusing the children, or that allowing children to stay with them is detrimental to the children?s well-being. Children must also be given the opportunity to talk about their experience in a safe environment, so as to give them the opportunity to be heard and validated. The problem of domestic violence and its impact on children who witness them need not be perpetuated into the lives of these children. It does not have to be as long as there is early intervention.

Repel Spiders By Making Use Of Natural Solutions Only ? SEO ...

It?s not a piece of cake to control spiders simply because they walk all around inside the house and may surface in any room. You can definitely find a large spider below your bathroom flush and notice the identical pest the following day inside your bedroom. These arthropods can be an annoyance in houses that are tidy and organized as well. Cobwebs are created by arachnids in the different edges of your walls which makes them look unkempt. Arachnid repellant is frequently used to prevent arachnids effectively. Together with that folks must also dust the walls of their bedrooms and the home furniture on a regular basis to make your home tidy. There?s a difference between a spider repellant and various other pest aerosols. Generally men and women utilize bug aerosols for driving away crawlers, however arachnid repellents might be far better in those situations.

Whenever spider repellents are employed inside garages and attics, the spaces end up cleaner and much more interesting without crawlers. Crawlers typically are not venomous, as many may erroneously believe. The truth is, there are basically 5 arachnids in United States of America which are dangerous. A few of them are Yellow Sac, Brown Recluse Spider, Black Widow Arachnid, and Hobo Spider. Nevertheless, these arthropods do look fairly scary and kids might become really terrified a result of the presence of these creatures. A spider repellant might be naturally available or made synthetically. It?s advisable to take advantage of the organic repellants for the reason that products are more secure compared to artificial ones. In an effort to influence the number of these crawly beings, repellants are absolutely necessary.

A number of advanced spider repellants are effective in eliminating nasty flying bugs as well. A fantastic arachnid repellent not just helps make the residence appear thoroughly clean, but also retains the people inside healthy. One must always verify the quality of a repellant just before using it. Particular arachnid repellants include strong chemicals which hurt draperies and other mats. It has been discovered that particular bug sprays use a noxious chemical generally known as diethyl-meta-toluamide. This constituent is responsible for brain as well as skin complications. People could have behavioral shifts and/or skin rashes after the administration of this noxious substance. It needs to be recalled that the reason for using arachnid repellents is to make the property a less dangerous and cleaner place and the overall objective is weakened as soon as chemical repellents are used.

An individual might also produce spider repellents in his house or even buy one in the nearby shop. White wine vinegar, clover, jasmine oil, and coconut oil are all spider deterrents and may be applied in the home-made repellants. Soaps used for cleaning bowls have citrus characteristics, and these kind of goods are likewise good at sending the furry arthropods away. Currently, cobweb-eliminator sprays are available in the market and these goods assist in preventing the development of crawlers through the elimination of their habitats. Although individuals do not need to be unduly stressed once they notice arachnids in their house, they need to be aware about specific varieties.

For many years individuals have been using citronella-oil to fight mosquitoes. Actually this particular oil is perfect for repelling different pests, arachnids, and bugs as well. An individual can merge 7 drops of this oil, 1 quart normal water, and 1 teaspoon apple dish-soap, and use the mixture exactly where arachnid problems are existent. Forever people have employed Neem oil and Tea-Tree oil for the treatment of skin infections both in pets and human beings. These oils have already been found to work in repelling arachnids likewise. Both these natural oils are typically available at wellness food-shops. You may cook a blend of these oils and apply it in areas where right now there is existence of spiders.

Research has shown that a rather effective spider repellant might be prepared by merging mineral oil, peppermint oil, plus wintergreen, should you really need to rid yourself of spiders. Therefore, it may be seen that we have plenty of non-chemical insecticides and one simply needs to pick an insecticide that works best for his home. Don?t be concerned about usual spiders located in houses! Aside from these items, artificial repellants and glue traps are also used for eliminating and repelling arachnids. The chemical spider repellent must be sprayed wherever there?s a congregation of spiders. Glue traps are also employed by people and most of these include sticky surfaces to catch spiders and exterminate them permanently.

Messing Up Home Improvements By Smoking

Home improvement is something that every home owner is concerned about. After all, it is a way to not only make your home a more suitable and enjoyable environment, but it is also a fantastic way to boost the value of your home. People pour an almost endless amount of money into buying new furniture, painting their walls, and in general making their homes more pleasing. However, if you are a smoker, you could be undoing a lot of the hard work and effort you are putting into improving your home. Here are some of the ways that smoking undoes your progress and ways to prevent that progress from being undone.

Painting a room can be expensive. Painting every room in a home is very expensive. If you are a smoker, you would be shocked to find out that the corrosive qualities of the cigarette smoke is actually staining the walls in your home. You may not be too worried about it if you have put up a fresh coat of paint, but over time your walls will not only become stained, but the cigarette smell will become a fixture of your home until you decide to improve it again.

You can avoid that by doing one of two things. You could opt to not smoke in your home. But the majority of smokers like to smoke at their leisure, and going outside does not exactly say leisure. A method that is becoming very popular, however, is to use electronic cigarettes. Since they put out a vapor instead of a smoke, that means that no damage is done to your walls.

Another aspect of home improvement is to move out the furniture and replace it with new furniture. But whenever you smoke on that new furniture you are allowing the cigarette smoke to be absorbed by the furniture. This means that the nasty smell will be passed on to your furniture. The kind of material you use is also important. Some materials are more prone to absorbing odors than others.

The easiest way to keep your furniture cigarette odor free is to not smoke around it. But, as previously mentioned, smoking is leisurely which means you would probably be sitting down. You could always spray your furniture down every hour, but then your home would really smell obnoxious. A great method to use is the electronic cigarette, once again because it has no nasty smelling smoke.

The amount of money that you normally put into home improvement can seem like it is astronomical. If you are a smoker, then the amount of money you are putting into home improvement is even more insane. By changing your smoking habits or switching over to electronic cigarettes, you are allowing yourself the opportunity to boost the value of your home and preserve the improved home that you have worked so very hard for.
