(AP) ? Ohio State University's top trustees say insensitive comments by the university president have embarrassed and divided the university.

The trustees say in a letter to president Gordon Gee (GHEE') that his comments risk diminishing the collective efforts of the university and of Gee's own good work.

The March 11 letter was obtained Friday by The Associated Press.

It lays out several steps Gee must take following the revelation of remarks he made last year jabbing Notre Dame, Roman Catholics and the Southeastern Conference.

Those steps include issuing personal apologies and getting help from professionals to revisit Gee's personal communications and speechwriting processes.

Trustee chairman Robert Schottenstein and trustee Alex Shumate (shoo'-MATE), who led the search committee that hired Gee in 2007, also say Gee must reprioritize what speaking engagements he accepts.

Human scabs serve as inspiration for new bandage to speed healing

May 29, 2013 ? Human scabs have become the model for development of an advanced wound dressing material that shows promise for speeding the healing process, scientists are reporting.

Their study appears in the journal ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces.

Shutao Wang and colleagues explain that scabs are a perfect natural dressing material for wounds. In addition to preventing further bleeding, scabs protect against infection and recruit the new cells needed for healing. Existing bandages and other dressings for wounds generally are intended to prevent bleeding and infections. Wang's team set out to develop a new generation of wound dressings that reduce the risk of infections while speeding the healing process.

They describe how research on the surface structure of natural scabs served as inspiration for developing a "cytophilic" wound dressing material. It attracts new cells needed for healing. The material mimics the underside of scabs, where tiny fibers are arranged in the same direction like velvet or a cat's fur. Wang's team spun fibers of polyurethane -- the common durable and flexible plastic -- into the same pattern. In laboratory experiments, the human cells involved in healing quickly attached to the membrane and lined up like those in actual scabs. The scientists conclude that this membrane "is of great potential in fabricating dressing materials for rapid wound healing, as well as other biomaterials, such as membrane for capturing circulating tumor cells, bone growth and constructing neural networks."

(AP) ? Syrian President Bashar Assad said the regime has received the first shipment of sophisticated Russian anti-aircraft missiles, and the main Western-backed opposition group announced Thursday that it will not participate in peace talks ? a double blow to international efforts to end the country's devastating civil war.

Assad's comment on the arrival of the long-range S-300 air defense missiles in Syria, which was made in an interview with Lebanon's Hezbollah-owned TV station, could further ratchet up tensions in the region and undermine any efforts to hold any peace talks.

However, American officials said they have no evidence that the Assad regime has received a shipment of S-300s. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to speak publicly on the matter.

Israel's defense chief, Moshe Yaalon, said earlier this week that Russia's plan to supply Syria with the weapons was a threat and that Israel was prepared to use force to stop the delivery.

"Syria has received the first shipment of Russian anti-aircraft S-300 rockets," Hezbollah's Al-Manar TV quoted Assad as saying. The Syrian leader added: "All our agreements with Russia will be implemented and parts of them have already been implemented."

The station released Assad's comments on the Russian missiles in print, through its breaking news service Thursday morning. An official at Al-manar confirmed to The Associated Press that the remarks were from the exclusive interview the TV was to air in full later Thursday.

The shipment of the missiles, if confirmed, comes just days after the European Union lifted an arms embargo on Syria, paving way for individual countries of the 27-member bloc to send weapons to rebels fighting to topple Assad's regime.

The developments raise fears of an arms race ? not just between Assad's forces and the opposition fighters battling to topple his regime, but also in the wider Middle East.

Israel has carried out several airstrikes in Syria in recent months that are believed to have destroyed weapon shipments bound for Hezbollah, the Lebanese Shiite group that along with Iran and Russia is a staunch Assad ally. It is not clear whether Israeli warplanes entered Syrian airspace in these attacks.

With the Russian missiles in Syria's possession, the Israeli air force's ability to strike inside the Arab country could be limited since the S-300s would expand Syria's capabilities, allowing it to counter airstrikes launched from foreign airspace as well.

The S-300s have a range of up to 200 kilometers (125 miles) and the capability to track and strike multiple targets simultaneously. Syria already possesses Russian-made air defenses, and Israel is believed to have used long-distance bombs fired from Israeli or Lebanese airspace.

When Israeli warplanes struck near the capital of Damascus, targeting purported Iranian missiles intended for Hezbollah earlier this month, Syria did not respond.

But on Wednesday, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem told Lebanon's Al-Mayadeen TV that Damascus "will retaliate immediately" if Israel strikes Syrian soil again.

It was the regime's most serious warning to Israel since the beginning of the conflict in March 2011 but it was not clear if there was a link between al-Moallem's remark and the Russian shipment.

Israel had no immediate reaction on the Russian shipment but Silvan Shalom, a Cabinet minister from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's party, told Israel Radio that the Jewish state will "take actions" to make sure advanced weapons don't reach rogue groups.

Meanwhile, the Syrian National Coalition's decision not to attend U.S.-Russian sponsored talks with representatives of the Assad regime torpedoes the only plan for trying to end Syria's two-year conflict that the international community had been able to agree on.

"The talk about the international conference and a political solution to the situation in Syria has no meaning in light of the massacres that are taking place," a spokesman for the Syrian National Coalition, Khalid Saleh, told reporters in Istanbul, where the opposition has been holding week-long deliberations on a strategy for the Geneva talks.

He said the group will not support any international peace efforts in light of Iran's and Hezbollah's "invasion" of Syria.

Saleh was referring to the increasingly prominent roles of Iran and the Lebanese militant Hezbollah group in backing Assad's forces on the ground.

"The National Coalition will not participate in an international conference and will not support any efforts in light of Iran's malicious invasion of Syria," he added.

The opposition's announcement came just a day after al-Moallem said the government would attend the planned peace conference in Geneva but laid out terms that made it difficult for the opposition to accept.

Al-Moallem said Assad will remain president at least until elections in 2014 and might seek another term, and that any deal reached in such talks would have to be put to a referendum.

Russian news agencies reported Thursday that U.S., Russian and U.N. diplomats will meet Wednesday in Geneva to discuss preparations for the Syria conference. The reports, citing an unnamed Russian Foreign Ministry official, were published before the coalition announced it would skip the talks.

The U.S. strategy has been to try to launch a dialogue between the regime and the opposition that would set a timetable for Assad's removal, said Salman Shaikh, director of the Brookings Doha Center. "That policy is now in tatters," he said.

In Syria, Assad's forces backed by Hezbollah fighters fought pockets of resistance in the strategic town of Qusair near the border with Lebanon. The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the government controls most of Qusair following a fierce, 12-day battle with opposition forces.

Thursday's sporadic clashes came as government troops were mopping up in northern and western parts of Qusair, said the Observatory, which relies on information from a network of activists on the ground.

The Syrian army on Wednesday took control of nearby Dabaa air base, dealing a major blow to the rebels in Qusair, an overwhelmingly Sunni town in western part of the country that has been controlled by the opposition since early last year.

The government launched an offensive on Qusair on May 19 and Hezbollah militants joined the battle, drawing the Lebanese Shiite group deep into the civil war next door.

More than 70,000 people have been killed in the 26-months-old Syrian conflict that has had increasingly sectarian overtones. Members of Syria's Sunni Muslim majority dominate the rebel ranks and Assad's regime is mostly made up of Alawites, an offshoot sect of Shiite Islam.

Both sides in the conflict value Qusair, which lies along a land corridor linking two Assad's strongholds, the capital of Damascus and an area along the Mediterranean coast that is the Alawite heartland. For the rebels, holding the town means protecting their supply line to Lebanon, just 10 kilometers (six miles) away.

The Coalition on Thursday launched an urgent appeal for relief efforts to rescue what it said were over 1,000 wounded people in the Syrian town of Qusair near the border with Lebanon.

"It is not reasonable, it is not logical that people and civilians are getting killed minute by minute while the international community continues in a standstill," Saleh said, speaking to reporters in English.

Cheap leases offered to spur electric car sales

(AP) ? Auto companies are lowering lease prices for electric cars as they try to jump-start slow sales in a competitive market.

Honda announced Thursday that it's slashing the monthly lease cost of its tiny Fit EV by one-third to $259 a month. Honda also is throwing in other goodies such as a free home charging station and unlimited mileage.

Honda's lower-priced three-year lease deal starts June 1. Honda says it also will drop the price of existing leases.

The move comes as more automakers enter the electric vehicle market in the U.S. But relatively low gas prices and concerns about running out of electric power on longer trips have held down sales.

General Motors and Nissan are among the other companies that recently offered cheaper leases on electric cars.

I'm on a book exercise Java-Illuminated-Learning-Approach, it asks me to test whether a given array is a magic square or not, my problem is that I don't know how to do the diagonal code, I re-read the book and it has nothing about it, I already implied that idea that it must be a box, and the columns and rows sum must be the same, Here's my code so far:

     public static boolean magicSquare(int[][] a) {         int sum=0;         int lastSum=0;         for (int i=0; i< a.length; i++) {             if (a.length!=a[i].length) {                 return false;             }         }         for (int i=0; i < a[0].length; i++) {             sum=0;             for (int j=0; j < a.length; j++) {                 sum+=a[i][j];             }             if (i==0) {                 lastSum=sum;             } else if (lastSum!=sum) {                 return false;             }         }         for (int i=0; i < a[0].length; i++) {             sum=0;             for (int j=0; j < a.length; j++) {                 sum+=a[j][i];             }             if (i==0) {                 lastSum=sum;             } else if (lastSum!=sum) {                 return false;             }         }          return true;     }

    And here's my array:
    int[][] array = { {2,7,6},{9,5,1},{4,3,8} };
    that I pass.

    Thanks

    I need to find the sum of the diagonal numbers, for ex;

    1 2 3
    4 5 6
    7 8 9

    the answer is 1 + 5 + 9 = 15

I know the logic but I can't implement it in anyway

Think about it logically. If your first index in the multi-d array is the row, and the second is the column you can easily push through an array by starting at 0,0... then next would be 1,1... then next would be 2,2.. etc.

 		0	1	2 --	--	-- 0	|	1	2	3 1	|	4	5	6 2	|	7	8	9

In an array[i, j], the diagonal you've highlighted is all terms where i = j. You can create a pretty simple loop to find those elements and sum them. How many loops does it take?

I was able to solve it by my self, I won't provide the code but you need two for loops one for going southeast and one for going southwest.. Thanks folks

(AP) ? Three months after being dropped from the 2020 Olympics, wrestling won a reprieve Wednesday and made the IOC short list for inclusion in the games.

Also making the cut were squash and a combined baseball-softball bid.

Eight sports were vying for a single opening in the lineup. Eliminated from contention were five sports ? karate, roller sports, sport climbing, wakeboarding and the Chinese martial art of wushu.

The IOC executive board will submit wrestling, squash and baseball-softball to the full IOC assembly for a final decision on Sept. 8 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

"It's a good mix of team sports and individual," IOC vice president Thomas Bach said.

The decision came after the eight sports federations made closed-door presentations to the IOC executive board.

The board voted by secret ballot over several rounds, with wrestling winning on the first round with eight of the 14 votes.

Baseball-softball beat karate 9-5 in a head-to-vote to win its spot on the list. Squash got through in the final round, getting eight votes to defeat wushu with four and sport climbing with two.

Men's baseball and women's softball, which have been off the program since the 2008 Beijing Games, merged into a single federation to improve their chances of getting back in.

"We are humbled and honored," said Riccardo Fraccari, co-president of the World Baseball Softball Confederation. "The decision motivates us to work even harder on behalf of the athletes."

Squash is bidding for an Olympic spot for a third time.

Wrestling, with a tradition dating to the ancient Olympics, was surprisingly cut from the list of core sports by the IOC board in February. The decision caused an international outcry and prompted the United States, Russia, Iran and other countries to join forces in a bid to bring the sport back.

The addition of wrestling to the mix has not gone over well with all the sports. If wrestling is reinstated in September, that will defeat the IOC's original goal of bringing in a new sport in 2020.

Wrestling, which has freestyle and Greco-Roman events, has gone through a major upheaval since February's rejection by the IOC. Raphael Martinetti resigned as FILA president and was replaced by Nenad Lalovic, women and athletes were brought into decision-making roles, and changes were enacted to make the sport more compelling.

Among the changes, matches will consist of two three-minute sessions instead of three two-minute periods, and scoring will be cumulative instead of the previous best-of-three system.

The IOC decision was watched closely by the three cities bidding to host the 2020 Games ? Istanbul, Madrid and Tokyo. Bid leaders from the three candidates are in St. Petersburg to make presentations on Thursday at the SportAccord Convention. Wrestling is particularly popular in Turkey and Japan.

Germany, France, Italy Call For Plan To Combat Youth Unemployment

    * French, Germany, Italy want plan for youth jobs crisis
    * Plans to be fleshed out at June, July EU meetings
    * Hollande says a euro zone economic govt could head projects
By Ingrid Melander and Nicholas Vinocur
PARIS, May 28 (Reuters) - Europe must urgently tackle youth unemployment, the French, German and Italian governments said on Tuesday, urging action to rescue an entire generation who fear they will not find jobs.
Ministers called for a mixture of measures including helping small companies and boosting apprenticeships.
Some 7.5 million Europeans aged 15-24 are neither in employment nor in education or training, according to EU data. Youth unemployment in the EU stood at 23.6 percent in January, more than twice as high as the adult rate.
"We have to rescue an entire generation of young people who are scared. We have the best-educated generation and we are putting them on hold. This is not acceptable," Italian Labour minister Enrico Giovannini told a conference in Paris.
Germany in particular, weary of a backlash as many in crisis-hit European countries blame it for austerity, has over the past weeks taken steps to tackle unemployment, striking bilateral deals with Spain and Portugal.
Its labour and finance ministers told the conference that, to help young people find jobs, Europe must continue on the path of structural reforms to boost its competitiveness as well as make good use of available EU funds, including 6 billion euros that leaders have set aside for youth employment for 2014-20.
"We need to be more successful in our fight against youth unemployment, otherwise we will lose the battle for Europe's unity," German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble said.
While Germany insists on the importance of budget consolidation, Schaeuble spoke of the need to preserve Europe's welfare model.
If U.S. welfare standards were introduced in Europe, "we would have revolution, not tomorrow, but on the very same day," Schaeuble told students at the Sciences Po political science institute hosting the conference.
While all agreed on the urgency needed to tackle youth unemployment, ministers offered no concrete plans, insisting Europe must be pragmatic and work on various strands.
Schaeuble said this was why Germany had also decided to strike deals with countries such as Spain and Greece.
"Let's be honest, there is no quick fix, there is no grand plan," said Werner Hoyer, head the European Investment Bank.
Together with ministers, he said policies aimed at boosting youth employment must focus on small and medium-sized enterprises as they are the main entry point to the labour market for most.
More than half of Spain's under 25-year-olds are jobless, as are nearly 40 percent in Portugal. In Greece, youth unemployment shot to a record 64 percent in February.
In March 2013, the lowest youth unemployment rates were in Germany and Austria, both below 8 percent, highlighting the wide disparities within the EU.
The youth employment crisis will be a central theme of a June EU leaders' summit, and German Chancellor Angela Merkel has invited EU labour ministers to a youth unemployment conference in Berlin on July 3.
Following up on an idea aired earlier this month, French President Francois Hollande urged the euro zone to work towards a joint economic government with its own budget which could take on specific projects including tackling youth unemployment.

What Can Microsoft Do To Make You Want The Xbox One?

It seems clear now that few actually intend to purchase the Xbox One right out of the gate. Definitely few around here at PSXE, which makes sense.

In general, though, things haven't gone well for Microsoft over the last week or so. So here's the question- We're all gamers, right? We all have ideas. We all know what we want. We all basically know what Microsoft did terribly wrong when unveiling the Xbox One. Now you don't want one. But what can be done to make you want one in the future...?

Some people are apparently so bitter about this mess that they've sworn off Microsoft completely. We've had more than a few people sign up at PSXE, saying they were once admitted hardcore Xbox fans, but they just couldn't believe what they saw when the Xbox One was announced. They've switched teams and they're not looking back. Other people are trying to be a bit more patient and objective; they're waiting to hear a little more and above all else, they want to hear about more games. There are a few promising ones, after all, and several more could be revealed at E3. And I honestly hope that happens.

So, would that do it? A few more high-profile, totally awesome-looking Xbox One exclusives? Or would Microsoft have to rescind a few of their planned programs and policies? For instance, it seems possible that Sony has axed their own DRM plans after the consumer backlash. So maybe Microsoft can do something similar and reclaim lost loyalty. Or perhaps you'll conclude that you don't mind a few of the restrictions and mandates quite as much as you thought. Like I said, we're all gamers, so what can Microsoft do? Is it already over or can they win you back?

Wikipad's 7-inch gaming tablet flashes its insides at the FCC

Wikipad's 7inch gaming tablet makes it to the FCC

The fussy perfectionists behind the Wikipad 7 may finally have a product they're prepared to sell. Now that the $250 7-inch gaming slate has been passed fit for consumption by the FCC, we imagine the device will hit shelves before the end of the company's self-imposed spring deadline. If however, you want to pass your time between finishing Arrested Development and the official launch date, check out the gallery of internal hardware shots we've posted below.
