Courses to Take when Studying for a Finance Degree | Bangladesh ...

Identify a few of the many important courses that make up a college-level Finance degree.

A finance degree offered by leading universities is designed to produce competent and reliable finance analysts, bank personnel, stocks analysts, finance specialists and other practitioners in the field of finance. Courses in this degree program aim to provide high-level mathematical understanding. Universities and distance learning schools provide different types of finance degrees ? a Bachelor of Science, Masters in Finance and a doctorate degree.

The required and most common courses in a Bachelor?s degree in finance include the following. The first is Corporate Finance. This is more of an introductory course in finance, dealing with basic theories, methods and concepts.

A finance practitioner cannot go very far without mastering the basics in corporate finance. This course provides a fundamental understanding of how corporations work and what money has got to do with it. This course talks about the value of money, budgeting of capital, risks and returns, security market, dividend policies and decisions, and capital structure.

A second course talks about Global Economy, tackling the subjects of macroeconomics, international economics, and business environment. The world has never been this small. Finance analysts should be trained in learning about the economies of other countries and in understanding how the global economy can affect the economy of the United States and vice versa.

A business environment covers all aspects in business that involve money. These money-matters include profits, revenues, inflation, risks, interest rates, investments, asset prices, employee wages, exchange rates, market performance, goods and assets, and financial systems. These should be a finance practitioner?s piece of cake.

Another critical course, especially for advanced students is Advanced Corporate Finance. Students in this course are trained in making the right corporate decisions. Each decision must be based on theories and empirical evidences, which in turn are based on a company?s investment and finance policies.

Another subject discussed in this course is financial management. Corporations are run by money; they may uphold corporate values and ideals, but basically, corporations are run by money, which is why finance analysts are very important people. In the Advanced Corporate Finance course, finance students are taught to better understand mergers and acquisitions, leasing, financial planning, corporate reorganizations, capital management, cost of capital, capital structure, pricing, and dividend policy.

Finance is closely related to economics, and so a staple in the study of finance is a course on Business Economics. This is, in fact, an introductory course to microeconomics and macroeconomics. It tackles subject matter such as fundamental economic tools, decision-making, market structures, the market economy, and the role of the government.

Finally, a program in Finance must not forget to include Investment Management. This course explains to students the concepts of portfolio analysis, investment objectives and financial assets. Such assets include corporate pension funds, institutional funds and bank-administered trust.

People in finance are the most educated professionals in matters involving money, investments, stocks, revenues, and so on. They give priceless financial advice and analyses to corporations, and it all began with just an undergraduate finance degree.
As a whole they help keep the country?s economy afloat.
