Wines Made in Hungary | FUNZINE

Hungary?s got darn good wines! However, tourists, expats and even certain Hungarians are often not aware of what a wine-wonderland they?re sitting on. As fall?s the time of these ever-so-exciting nectars here?s FUNZINE?s essentials of wines, just for you.

?

Magyarland may be a small country, but there are 22 wine regions, all producing characteristic, terroir vinos. The varied climate and terrain of Hungarymake it ideal for producing all the classic wine styles and more. The two most famous ones, probably even pronounceable for non-Magyars, are the Tokaji Asz? and the EgerBikav?r (Bull?s Blood). The former is a sweetwine made of grapes with noble rot. The latter one, Bull?s Blood is a red cuvee. Although these two wines have become widely known, there are many hidden gems. While adventuring in the world of vinos, be sure to look for some of the beauties below:

?

Tokaji Asz? ? a deep golden, sweet wine made of grapes with noble rot. The higher number of puttony (baskets of sweet asz? berries) awine has, the sweeter it is.

?

Bikav?r (Bull?s Blood) ? a full-bodied and velvety dark red cuvee, a marriage of a minimum of three varieties.

?

Tokaji Furmint - a fragrant dry white with great complexity that?s joining Asz? as one of the Tokaj region?s best wines. Amazing results hail from slopes named Csontos, Lapis, Ny?l?sz?, Szent Tam?s, Szerelmi or ?r?gya.

?

Badacsonyi K?knyel? ? an elegant spicy white with crispy acidity. One of the ancient varieties of Badacsony with huge potential for aging. Great with fish dishes.

?

Vill?nyi Portugieser ? a fruity, easy-to-drink red for jolly times with friends.

Sample these divine gifts of fall, the best Hungarian wines? Eg?szs?gedre!
